3.3 Implementation and Institutionalization

“Implementation is using instructional materials or strategies in real (not simulated) settings. Institutionalization is the continuing, routine use of the instructional innovation in the structure and culture of an organization” (Seels & Richey, 1994, p. 47).

Publishing A Story Digitally
Edtech 501 - Tech Trends Lesson Plan

This artifact is a writing lesson plan written for kindergarten students. In it, the students will create their own written work which will then be published using an iPad. After publication, the children will review and revise the digital works with the teacher. The goals of this lesson are to familiarize children with iPads and to make the children's written work more available to parents.

This lesson is the first step in the implementation of iPads into the kindergarten classroom. As with any other kindergarten classroom material, the iPad should be used by the teacher as a model for how the children will be expected to use the device. In subsequent lessons, the children will be expected to have more hands on control of importing the writing into the iPad.

I have since used this lesson plan in my kindergarten classroom last year. The results were good and the parent response was excellent. When trying to include a sample ebook, I found that all of the ebooks the children made were not accessible anymore on the Scribble Press website. I don't have any exported versions of the ebooks because I liked Scribble Press's look and I did not have any way to host the ebook files. In the future, I plan to download usable versions of the online materials that I can use in the event the online company has problems or ceases to exist.
