2.4 Integrated Technologies

“Integrated technologies are ways to produce and deliver materials which encompass several forms of media under the control of a computer” (Seels & Richey, 1994, p. 40).

What Do You Know About Raffins?
Edtech 502 - Webquest

In this artifact, I created a webquest. This webquest is an introduction to having a raffin as a classroom pet. It teaches the learner all about raffins, also known as fancy rats. The intended audience is kindergarten through first grade children. Because the intended audience is most likely not yet literate, the text is accompanied by narration videos. I produced the narration videos using a program called XtraNormal. In addition to the text and the narration videos, the webquest also includes links to external websites, embedded YouTube videos, and embedded images. The webquest also includes an assessment with a rubric and a teacher page which aligns the instruction to the current state standards.

This artifact is a demonstration of integrating several media types and methods into one message. The creation of this artifact included the production of the narration videos. The production of the narration videos included scripting the narration in XtraNormal, adjusting the camera angles to maximize interest, exporting the video, converting the .avi files into embeddable .swf files using Adobe After Effects, and then embedding the results into the webpages. The production of the videos and the integration of these diverse forms of media are an example of my mastery of this standard.
